🥁drumroll…🥁EVENTS!
Happy Wednesday, Chino.
Last week we asked you what Chew projects excite you the most. A whopping 78% of you selected in-person events. We ran the same survey on Instagram, and it was clear: we all want to meet each other in person 🥹

also, how cute is this cow. where can i buy one.
We’ll get working on that. We have some cool ideas. If you’re a business owner and want to partner with us, give us a shout.
Also, remember that the Chino Chew Referral Party is still going on until end of October. You have roughly 6 weeks to evangelize your friends and family about the Chino Chew. 3 referrals get you a sweet birthday shoutout, the big winner gets $100. Scroll down to the referral section to participate. We already have a few readers that are decorating the leaderboard.
We’re officially in Fall now, and we have pumpkin-spiced flavored updates for you.
Let’s get into it.

Chino just wrapped up public commenting on its 2045 General Plan - the city's roadmap for growth, housing, transportation, and community character over the next 20 years. The plan covers everything from preserving our small-town feel to managing new development. Over the next few newsletter issues, we'll break down different sections so you know what's coming. This week: where we started.
Our Origin Story. Long before strip malls and subdivisions, Chino belonged to the Tongva people. Spanish explorers passed through on the famous Anza Trail in the 1700s, and when Mexico took control in 1824, our area became Rancho Santa Ana del Chino - a massive land grant to the Lugo family. Everything changed in 1881 when goldminer Richard Gird bought the ranch and carved it into 10-acre plots around a one-mile township. Railroad arrived in 1887, the Sugar Beet Factory opened in 1889, and by 1910 we were officially a city. From there, Chino became Southern California's dairy capital, with farms growing everything from walnuts to sweet corn until freeways arrived in the 1970s.
Understanding where we came from helps make sense of where we're headed - the 2045 General Plan builds on this foundation of reinvention and adaptation that's been Chino's story from day one. Next week: how we transformed from farm town to the suburban community we know today.

Here are some other things that happened around us, in 60 seconds or less:
Business & Development
🛣 Chino’s city wide road improvement projects continue on various parts of town.
💵 Union representing around 100 city employees successfully negotiated a 6% raise with the city, a move expected to pull over $360k from the city’s sewer, sanitation, community, and general fund.
🏠 Discussion of financial aid for ADU constructions in Chino. The city provides 3 pre-approved ADU plans that can speed up approvals process.
👟 Snail’s Pace running store has opened at The Shoppes in Chino Hills.
🍵 We recently visited Coft Coffee & Tea, who had their soft opening in Chino. And it was packed. Packed all three times we tried to go film. We couldn’t film it due to how crowded it was, so we think you should go check it out yourself…You won’t be disappointed. Amazing gourmet coffees and matchas.
The Bulletin
💼 We’re building something exciting for the Bulletin. TBD.
