Itโ€™s Wednesday, Chino!!!

Usually we start with a joke or a meme, but we have some heroes to thank this weekโ€ฆ

some images from the fire โ€” credit to KTLA

Last Wednesday, a brush fire (~120 acres) broke out on Euclid and closed down the 71 both ways. However, the Chino Valley Fire Department, in unified command with Cal Fire San Bernadino and Riverside, quickly responded to the incident. Forward progress was stopped within hours! (And as of writing this, majority of the fire is contained.) ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Buuuut you know me, I canโ€™t give up the humor of this newsletter. So I found this unhinged yelp review of the 71 freeway:

In this issue we have:

  • CORE Academy & Chino Police Academy notice

  • A big local sweepstakes

  • The $1.3M, 200-acre development plan

  • โ€ฆ and as always, your weekend event lineup ๐Ÿฅณ

Letโ€™s get into it.

Did you know that Hmart is having a sweepstakes?! The newish local Asian grocery store is selecting 700+ lucky winners for prizes that total $13,000! Every receipt is an entry: simply fill out and submit! Check out our IG post about it:

Hereโ€™s what else happened, in 60 seconds or less:

  • ๐Ÿ™ Wanna learn how the city runs? Join the City of Chino CORE Academy for a free, 6-week engagement course to learn how our city works.

  • ๐Ÿ‘ฎ Learn from Chino PD about patrols, SWAT, K-9, and more! Chino Police Academy opening Aug 20.

  • ๐Ÿ— Chino City Council will be spending $1.3M to pursue the reclaim of a 200-acre site (formerly youth correctional facility) to mixed use for agriculture, housing, and retail. More to come.

  • ๐Ÿง‹ Wushiland Chino Hills is having a matcha event $50 giveaway. Check out their IG for more info.

๐Ÿ” Itโ€™s finally here! Ultimate Burger Smackdown.

If youโ€™ve been with us, you know that we started stealth reviews of local burger places to find our favorite. Thatโ€™s right, besties, our favorite. Why? Because weโ€™re going to places you recommended! (If you didnโ€™t get to submit a rec, thereโ€™s a button below.)

For our first, we went to Farmer Boyโ€™s in Chino, and ordered the Farmerโ€™s Burger.

Two patties, cheese, bacon, smashed avocado, OLT (onions-lettuce-tomato). Pretty standard, but the price was steep at $11.99. Bun was impressive (not limp like most fast food places), but the patties were thin and a bit overcooked, making them dry. Fries were actually pretty good! And the avocado was a nice touch ๐Ÿฅ‘.

Final verdict: 3.5/5 ๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ— ๐ŸŒ‘. Post on IG coming soon.

๐ŸŽ‰ Did a friend send this to you? Join us here and never miss an event.
