Gorrocino Roofing

Hello Chino Valley!

Pine Ave. expansion is in full throttle. Every morning during my commute, I find a new traffic pattern that happened overnight. Its feels like “just a quick drive” in Chino quickly become a small emotional journey these days…

Anyways, things are definitely picking up around here — more events, more people out, and a few places around town that feel like they’re about to turn into something else entirely. We’ve got a solid lineup this week — the Ontario Tower Buzzers are having their first game today, it’s Easter Weekend, and we got some fun giveaways for you.

Let's get into it.

Your Trusted Roofing Partners — Residential or Commercial.

Roof issues have a way of showing up at the worst possible time. And suddenly you’re Googling contractors, comparing quotes, and wondering who you can actually trust to not make it a whole thing.

That’s where Gorrocino Roofing comes in. Family-owned, local, and led by Fernando and Gracie Gorrocino (25+ years in construction), they handle everything from repairs to full replacements — tile, shingle, metal, waterproofing, all of it.

But here’s the part that stands out: they use Equipter RB4000, a machine most contractors don’t due to cost. Using this machine means tight or hard-to-access spaces are not overlooked, and saves homeowners a ton of money by reducing labor costs and protecting their yards and driveways. Basically: less mess, less stress, and fewer surprises.

Roofing isn’t exactly something you want to deal with. But if you have to, this is the kind of team you want on it.

Here are some things that happened around us, in 60 seconds or less.

Business & Development

  • 🚗 Chino and Chino Hills councils voted to support Measure I continuation on Nov. 3 ballot—half-cent sales tax generates $250M annually for transportation. No expiration date if approved, voters can end it anytime.

  • 🏗️ Houses near shuttered Corner Bar on Schaefer east of Central being demolished for future development. Site shows debris, broken windows, and hazards.

  • ⚖️ Chino has spent over $22M in Measure I funding on 60+ capital projects including 71 Freeway, Central Avenue interchange, traffic signals at Fern and Eucalyptus.

  • 🛣️ "Four Counties Group" re-established to collaborate on cross-county transportation projects, particularly 71 Freeway improvements. 22 participants from 13 agencies met March 11 at McCoy Barn.

  • Set Coffee grand opening April 4th, Saturday. 3932 Grand Ave, Chino, California, 91710.

Community

  • 🏊 Club on Main recreation center opening Saturday, April 11 at The Preserve's Legacy Park Street. $13M, 12,000 sq ft clubhouse with fitness center, pool, pickleball courts, and virtual sports simulator.

The Bulletin

9700 New Homes… So What About All the Traffic?

History Corner is back — we're going through Chino's General Plan together so we know where the City is trying to go. We're in the infrastructure chapter now. This week: Getting Around Chino in 2045.

The General Plan doesn't just plan for housing and jobs - it plans for how everyone moves. That means widening key intersections, improving signal timing, and adding capacity on corridors like Central Avenue and Euclid Avenue that are already feeling the pressure. The city is also planning for more than just cars: new bike lanes, pedestrian connections, and transit links are part of the vision, especially near higher-density areas.

The bigger picture goal is that new development pays for itself - developers are expected to contribute to infrastructure improvements through fees and conditions. So growth funds the roads, trails, and connections that make growth livable. This method has been criticized because it deters some developers from coming in (they expect the City to pay for most of it, as many other cities do to attract great developers). But it’s getting done in some parts of Chino, and it’s working.

Personally, I'd love to see this as the moment Chino gets serious about walkability. A city where you can actually get somewhere without a car? Yes please.

Next time: how the General Plan handles parks, open space, and keeping Chino green.

🍲Young Dong Tofu: A Solid Bowl, But Not a Standout

image: yelp

Young Dong Tofu is one of those spots you land on when you’re craving something warm and filling without overthinking it. The space is simple and no-frills. More about the food than the experience, which sets expectations pretty quickly.

We went with the galbitang and tonkatsu. The galbitang did its job: rich, savory, and comforting. The tonkatsu comes out crispy with a solid portion, an easy pick if you want something reliable. For being in a soft tofu place we didn’t actually order tofu soup, but the reviews seems to say that it’s pretty good as well.

But in all honesty, it wasn’t our favorite Korean place we visited (the head editor is Korean, which is unfair, but even then, this was our honest assessment). Prices were higher than other local Korean spots, but the service was pretty poor which really marred our experience. We might go back in a pinch, but probably won’t be the first place we’d pick, especially with other options like Mindeulle nearby. This review on Instagram had some fans defending the restaurant though, which means there’s a healthy disagreement locally and a wide spectrum of experiences here! What did you think of Young Dong Tofu?
