Happy Thursday Chewies!

If you’ve been following us, you know that we grew quickly last year to 10k+ email subscribers (and thousands more on social media!) in just five months. And since then, we’ve been doing some great things. We hosted three in-house events, helped with a food drive, and highlighted many local businesses around us. In 2026 we on-boarded our long-term community sponsors (logos at the end ) that help us keep the newsletter going.

Recently, we grew enough to add another team member to the crew — meet Sofia. Sofia will be helping us put our weekly content together, and keep track of the behind-the-scenes stuff so we can continue to deliver the fun stuff. Welcome Sofia!

This week, we announce our Pet of the Month, some brief updates about the Ontario warehouse fire, and of course, the long list of fun weekend events you & your family can be doing.

Let's get into it.

The Bulletin

The Digest

A massive 6-alarm fire destroyed a 1.2 million-square-foot Kimberly-Clark distribution center in Ontario early Tuesday morning (April 7), with 175 firefighters battling flames visible for miles. Chamel Abdulkarim, 29, of Highland—an NFI Industries employee working at the third-party distribution site—was arrested on multiple felony arson charges and held without bail. A social media video allegedly posted by Abdulkarim appears to show him igniting pallets while saying "All you had to do was pay us enough to live... There goes your inventory." (Some sources report he was getting paid around $21/hour.) All 20 employees onsite were evacuated safely with no injuries reported. Kimberly-Clark stated its supply chain is designed for continuity and there will be no toilet paper or diaper shortage from the incident. ABC7& CBS News

Set Coffee: A Fresh Coffee Stop in Chino

If you’ve been wanting to try a new coffee spot but keep defaulting to your usual (same), Set Coffee just opened in Chino and it’s a little different from what you might expect.

Started by three college friends who began with a coffee cart, the space keeps things pretty simple, but the menu is where it stands out. They lean into Korean-inspired drinks, like the Set Spresso with roasted rice foam (inspired by chewy injeollmi… which sounds questionable, but actually works).

It’s not your typical large-chain coffee place, so it might take a second to figure out what to order, but that’s kind of the point. If you’re open to trying something new, it’s a solid switch-up from the usual routine.

with Pet Wants Chino Hills

April’s Pet of the Month is… TOBY 🐶

He’s a 16-year-old terrier mix with the calmest, sweetest energy (honestly, we should all aspire to be this unbothered). His signature look? One ear up, the other doing its own thing. People always ask if it’s “broken,” but nope that’s just Toby being Toby. He’s the definition of a social butterfly. Gets along with every dog, loves his walks, and will absolutely accept treats!

Keeping Your Pup Happy This Season

As temps go up, so does flea and tick season. Here’s how to stay ahead, without overcomplicating things:

  • A quick daily check after walks (ears, belly, paws) goes a long way (especially if your pup loves rolling around!)

  • Keep their bedding clean & yards trimmed

  • Give your home a regular vacuum to reduce risk

What you feed matters too. A quality diet and skin-supporting toppers can help make pets less appealing to pests from the inside out. Pet Wants Chino Hills can help! Stop by Pet Wants to get quality pet food for longevity & health before issues arise.

Med School is Expensive. Financing Your Home Doesn’t Have To Be.

Loan Program Update: Great news for doctors of Chino Valley… Dillon’s program might be one you’ll want to keep on your radar. This 100% financing option means no down payment and no mortgage insurance (which, yeah, already makes it stand out). Loan amounts can go up to $2 million, and in some cases, student loans may be excluded from the qualification process. Even if you haven’t started your role yet, your future income can count if started in five months! Contact Dillon for more info.

Restaurant Recs from Your Local RE Agent: If you’ve lived around Chino Hills long enough, you know finding a go-to spot is kind of a big deal. Tropical Mexico (Pomona) has been a longtime family favorite right on the Chino border. They just added a new outdoor patio and it’s actually so nice one of those spots that somehow works for everything, birthdays, family dinners, random “we don’t feel like cooking” nights. Then there’s Roscoe’s Famous Deli, a true local staple. After 28 years, it’s still the go-to for dinner, drinks, brunch, or catching a game.

Whether you're buying, selling, or just running the numbers, our local partners have you covered. Reach out to Taylor Winkler for listings and strategy, and connect with Dillon Perry to get your financing dialed in before you start shopping.
