Hello Chino Valley,

This Fourth of July was not the celebration our community hoped for. On Saturday evening, a fireworks explosion on D Street led to a tragedy, covered below more in our Digest. One neighbor described the blast as sounding like a gas line had exploded. The investigation is ongoing, and a man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Our hearts go out to the family and everyone affected. If you'd like to support them, we'll share any verified fundraisers as they become available. Please email us if you know of any.

It's a heavy start to the week. But we're still here, still a community. Here's what else is happening locally.

Let’s get into it.

The Digest

Chino's Fourth of July celebration turned tragic on the evening of July 4 when a cache of fireworks exploded around 8:30 p.m. in the 5600 block of D Street at Benson Avenue. Officers initially responded to a vehicle fire call and discovered a large quantity of fireworks had ignited, causing an explosion that killed a woman in her twenties (identity withheld pending family notification) and seriously injured three adults, with a child also evaluated at a hospital. Witnesses believe an illegal firework landed inside a parked car filled with additional pyrotechnics, igniting the cache. The explosion also engulfed a nearby vehicle in flames and set a palm tree briefly on fire. "There was a humongous explosion," a witness told media. "The explosion was so loud, it's what I would assume a gas line in a house blew up." Derion Tradon James Jr., 28, of Hesperia, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter and booked into West Valley Detention Center. The case is under investigation by Chino Police with assistance from the Ontario Fire Department Bomb Squad and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. Neighbors expressed shock that despite Chino's tradition of allowing "safe and sane" fireworks, illegal fireworks were evident throughout the evening. The community is grieving as authorities urge anyone with information to contact Detective Gregory at (909) 334-3136. Read more here.

Microneedling Isn't Just for Your Face

Most people associate microneedling with smoother skin and a healthy facial glow, but that's only part of the story. More and more people are discovering that the same treatment can help improve concerns well beyond the face, making it one of the most versatile options for skin rejuvenation.

At Radiant Face Aesthetics inside Aspire Salon at The Preserve, Nicole offers personalized microneedling treatments designed to target everything: from surgical scars and stretch marks, to aging hands, and uneven skin texture. Because every person's skin tells a different story, each treatment is tailored to individual goals rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

For clients looking to enhance their results, microneedling can also be combined with advanced add-ons like PRP, exosomes, growth factors, hyaluronic acid, or peptides. These options help support collagen production, hydration, and the skin's natural healing process, creating a treatment plan that's customized from start to finish.

And if you’re already stopping by Aspire, BrowBiz Studio is right down the hall. Paige recently expanded into full body waxing services in addition to brow laminations, waxing, and tinting. Now that, is what I call efficient — everything in just one place.

🥟 One More Bite, Please

Some restaurants make a great first impression before the food even hits the table, and One More Bite Dumpling is one of them. Tucked into a shopping center in Chino, the bright, beautifully designed space feels much more upscale than you might expect, creating the perfect setting for everything from a casual lunch to dinner with friends and family.

The menu is packed with authentic Chinese favorites, making it easy to order a little bit of everything and share. We especially loved the Black Truffle Fried Rice, Fried Beef Noodles, Pork Wonton Soup, Pork & Shrimp Shumai, crispy Popcorn Chicken, and Coconut Balls to finish things off. The drinks were just as memorable, arriving beautifully presented with just the right amount of sweetness.

One thing you'll notice after reading through reviews is how often people mention the service. Guests consistently praise the friendly staff, quick service, and attention to detail, whether it's recommending dishes, checking in throughout the meal, or simply making everyone feel welcome. It's the kind of hospitality that makes a good meal even better.

If you've been meaning to give One More Bite Dumpling a try, you'll just have to wait a little longer. The restaurant is temporarily closed and will reopen on August 1, giving you plenty of time to decide which dumplings, noodles, or dim sum dishes you'll order first.

📍15709 Euclid Ave., Ste E, Chino, CA 91708

📆 Reopening August 1; 🕒 Monday & Wednesday–Sunday, 11:30am–9:00pm (Closed Tuesdays)

🏡 Stretch Your Budget with Seller Credits & Home Improvement Grants

Buying a home comes with more expenses than just the down payment but seller credits can help lighten the load. Instead of using them only for closing costs, you may be able to apply those credits toward a 1-0 temporary rate buydown, lowering your interest rate by 1% during your first year of homeownership.

That means a lower monthly mortgage payment while you're settling in, furnishing your home, or adjusting to new expenses. After the first year, your loan simply returns to the original note rate—no refinance or additional paperwork required. It's a smart strategy that can provide extra breathing room when it matters most.

And If you've been putting off exterior repairs or upgrades, this may be worth checking out. The City of Chino Hills is now accepting applications for its Home Improvement Grant Program, offering eligible homeowners up to $7,500 for qualifying exterior projects like roof repairs, exterior paint, windows, garage doors, and more. Funding is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
💡Taylor's Tip: Keeping up with exterior maintenance helps protect your home's value, whether you're planning to sell soon or stay for years to come. If you think you may qualify, it's worth applying sooner rather than later.

If you'd like to learn more or see if you qualify, you can find the application here: City of Chino Hills Home Improvement Grant Program

Whether you're buying, selling, or just running the numbers, our local partners have you covered. Reach out to Taylor Winkler for listings and strategy, and connect with Dillon Perry to get your financing dialed in before you start shopping.
