BrowBiz Studio & Radiant Face Aesthetics

Hello Chino Chewies,

We had elections last week. The most contested race Chino Valley paid attention to might have been the Shaw vs. Barrera for California Superintendent of Public Instruction, which was frequently talked about online due to Shaw’s former position in the Chino Valley Unified School District. We recap some other important results for you below, including the two Measures J and F we summarized for you last time.

In other news, we have some secret projects we’re working on. It will be unveiled at our Friendsgiving November 19, so make sure you get your tickets before they sell out!!

wow what could it be i can’t even tell

Let’s get into it.

A Little Lift Goes a Long Way ✨

I’m always busy. You’re always busy. We’re all busy, but what we still love is looking put together with 0 effort.

I’ve visited Paige for my Korean Lash Lift + Tint before, and seriously, this is a gamechanger. It’s designed to enhance your natural lashes with a customized curl and added definition, making getting ready in the morning a breeze. What makes this treatment different is its cysteamine-based formula, which works at a lower pH for a gentler process that helps retain moisture in the lashes. The technique also allows artists to work from root to tip, tailoring the lift to each client's lashes rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach.

It's a nice option for anyone if you also love the look of lifted, defined lashes without needing extensions! (I’m a retired extension girly.) And if your brows could use some attention, the studio also offers brow shaping, tinting, staining, and lamination.

December appointments are now open, with four artists available and Sundays recently added to the schedule.

And if you’re already stopping by BrowBiz, Radiant Face Aesthetics is right down the hall. From facials and skincare treatments to aesthetic services, you can easily turn your lash appointment into a little more of a self-care day. Now that is what I call efficient — everything in just one place.

Election Updates:

The early counts are in, and the biggest shake-up may be at Chino Valley Unified. Challengers lead in both school board races: Frank Gerdine is ahead of Chris Shaw for the seat Sonja Shaw left, and Meagan Lichthart is ahead of appointed board member Shaun Smith. Statewide, Sonja Shaw trails Richard Barrera in the race for state superintendent, though that office is about to lose much of its power under a new state law.

Closer to home, Chino looks set to pass its Measure F business tax overhaul, while Chino Hills’ Measure J sales tax is a coin flip, with No ahead by about 100 votes.

City council incumbents are leading across the board. Not all is final yet: California counts ballots for weeks, and the county isn’t expected to certify until early December.

Quick hits (latest available counts from here)

  • School Board, Area 3: Gerdine 55.8%, Chris Shaw 44.2%

  • School Board, Area 4: Lichthart 56.6%, Smith (incumbent) 43.4%

  • State Superintendent: Barrera 58%, Shaw 42% as of election night. Not yet called.

  • Measure J (Chino Hills sales tax): No 50.3%, Yes 49.7%. Too close to call.

  • Measure F (Chino business tax): Yes 67.5%. Passing.

  • Measure I (countywide transportation tax): Yes 68.9%. It needs two-thirds, so it’s passing, but narrowly.

  • Chino Council D2: Burton (incumbent) 52.9%, Alexandris 47.1%

  • Chino Council D3: Lucio (incumbent) 67.8%, Alam 32.2%

  • Chino Hills Council D2: Rogers (incumbent) 71%, Ayala 29%

  • Chino Hills Council D4: Johsz (incumbent) 58.1%, Estrada 41.9%

  • Chino Hills Council D1: Marquez, unopposed

  • Fire Board D3: Haughey (incumbent) 74.8%, Williams 25.2%

Results can shift as late ballots are counted. We’ll update you once the county certifies.

🐹 Pet of the Month: Meet Puffball the 3rd!

Meet Puffball the 3rd, our Pet of the Month! This adorable Campbell's dwarf hamster may be small, but she's got her priorities figured out.

According to her owner, Puffball is a little shy and isn't always in the mood to socialize. But offer her some food, and suddenly she's willing to make an exception. We can't blame her. Good food has a way of winning us over, too!

And speaking of food, what our pets eat can make a big difference in how they feel!

If your dog is constantly scratching, licking their paws, or dealing with itchy ears, food sensitivities could be part of the problem. A 100% Complete & Balanced diet supports healthy skin and a shiny coat, while cutting back on extra treats and exploring different protein sources may help identify potential triggers.

Finding the cause takes patience, though, a proper dietary trial typically lasts 6–12 weeks, and persistent itching is always worth discussing with your veterinarian.

✨ Local Stories: A Familiar Face at Northgate Has a Story Worth Sharing

Estella at Northgate

If you've stopped by Northgate Market on Mountain Avenue in Chino, you might have crossed paths with Estella. She's been working as a Front End Cashier since February 2026, and the job has become much more than a way to earn a paycheck.

Estella has always been good with numbers and handling money, but job interviews weren't her strong suit. The nerves would kick in whenever she had to talk about herself, making it difficult to find work even though she had the skills.

That's where Oparc stepped in. Oparc is a local non-profit that helps adults with disabilities get on-site job training and employment. Through its employment program, Estella practiced interviews with job developers who helped her build confidence. When the City of Chino and Northgate hosted hiring fairs, she took her chance and landed the job!

Getting started took some dedication, too. Her training was at Northgate's Fontana location, which meant arranging rides and carpooling with coworkers. She made it work, and today she's a familiar face behind the register in Chino.

The biggest change? Her confidence. Having a job she's proud of and earning her own money have given Estella a greater sense of independence and security.

Stories like hers are part of what Oparc does every day. The organization supports more than 800 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them build skills and connect with local employers.

With businesses like Northgate opening their doors, Estella's story is a reminder of what the right opportunity can mean.

If you'd like to support more stories like Estella's, Oparc's Turkey Bowl is coming up this Saturday, November 7. Proceeds go toward the organization's programs and services, helping more people in our community find opportunities of their own.

You'll find the event details in the flyer right below. It's a great way to support an organization doing meaningful work for our neighbors.
