Hello Everyone!

Happy Thursday.

We made it through the rain and now it's back to that classic IE sunshine where you need sunglasses by 9am. In other worldly news, the America’s Next Top Model documentary is out on Netflix and I went down on a trip down memory lane. I didn't grow up in America, but the show was still iconic even in my country.

Anyway, we've got a good lineup this week. Events, updates, and a few things you'll actually want to know about.

Also, we have 1-2 tickets left for the Global Charcuterie Night we’re hosting with Argonza Cellars and Distrofino. If you want to come taste novel and gourmet bites with local wine, come join us here. Non-wine tickets also available.

Let's get into it.

Here are some things that happened around us, in 60 seconds or more.

Business & Development

  • 💪 Chino hiring 17 employees for $1.3M annually to address population growth in The Preserve and College Park. Funded by Measure V sales tax.

  • 🏊 Chino Hills canceled Pinehurst Park splash pad after discovering site in flood basin. Exploring alternative locations, Hagman's $8.5M allocation secure.

Community

  • 🎭 Fire Board member Harvey Luth and Community Development Director Nick Liguori performed in Chino Community Theatre comedy fundraiser organized by Kiwanis Club.

  • 🚦 Chino Hills installing $211K reflective yellow backplates on traffic signals to improve visibility during emergency blackouts and power outages.

  • 🗳️ Pomona placed Measure Z on June 2 ballot to restructure "Kids First" funding—1% sales tax revenue instead of 10% general fund to avoid insolvency.

  • 📚 San Bernardino Library spring book sale Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Hardbacks $1, paperbacks 25¢. March 7: fill-a-bag for $3.

The Digest

👮 Chino Police Chief Kevin Mensen reported a significant increase in service calls at three high-density apartment complexes during his annual crime report to the city council. The Homecoming complex, with 1,645 units, averaged three police calls per day in 2025, totaling 1,098 service calls including 30 child neglect reports and 14 missing person cases. Residents have requested enhanced security, but management declined, citing on-site maintenance staff. Councilman Marc Lucio noted that market-rate Homecoming receives more calls than affordable housing complexes Ivy and Meadowhouse, and criticized delays in building a community center with youth programs. Developer Randall Lewis acknowledged the need for improvement and confirmed plans to meet with city officials next week to develop an action plan, while a community building with a gymnasium and library moves forward in planning.

I think I found my new favorite boba place — Chicha San Chen in Chino!

Located on 4110 Edison Ave Ste 101 in Chino, their teas were one of the best I've tasted and their varietals were all very fragrant. Ranging from subtle to assertive, their teas were also available for sampling at the counter when we visited! (I don’t think that's a default)

You know how some places, you ask for 50% sweetness but it still reeks of artificial syrup & flavors? There was none of that here. I got the Dong Ding tea (fun name) which had great roasted aroma. They use a special tea espresso machine to get it just right.

Give them a try and let me know what you think!
