Hello Chino Chew,

There have been a lot of fires lately. Following the Ontario Warehouse Fire we reported on last time, we saw a cloud of smoke cover Eastvale / Jurupa Valley area yesterday. A brush fire in Jurupa Valley has grown quickly to 30 acres forcing evacuations. So far the cause of fire hasn’t been confirmed, but we’re hoping for safety of all near the fire and minimum property impact.

In other news, Chino’s “State of the City” event was this week, where mayor Ulloa gave an address presenting what Chino is going through. We couldn’t make it, but we’ve been presenting the General Plan here in the newsletter. But maybe that’s boring to some people. So an honest question: do you like reading about civil updates?

Do you like our "History Corner"?

We go over Chino's future plans together, and discuss development updates in detail

In this issue, we present to you the BEST dental office I’ve ever been to (don’t tell my aunt, she’s a dentist in Cerritos), the rising opioid crisis in our region, the spicy debate over ARC (Animal Resource Center) budgets, and of course, weekend events to keep your family busy & entertained.

Let's get into it.

Your Eyes Get the Credit. Your Brows Do the Work.

People say your eyes are the windows to your soul…but most people are noticing the frame first.

BrowBiz Studio does the kind of work that pulls everything into place — clean, intentional shaping that makes you look more rested, more put together, without overdoing it. And it’s not rushed either — Paige takes her time with personalized brow mapping, making sure everything actually fits your features.

If it’s subtle & effective, it’s the brows.

They’ve also started offering Korean lash perms, so your lashes stay lifted without the daily effort.

Next door, Radiant Face Aesthetics takes a long-term approach to skin — starting with regenerative treatments and building from there. When you’re ready for more, they’re right there with you.

One appointment. Everything clicks.

Here are some things that happened around us, in 60 seconds or less.

Business & Development

  • 💧 Federal ban on potable water for public/commercial grass takes effect January 2027. This will transform Chino City Hall and Fairfield Ranch Trail with drought-tolerant plants using $8.4M state grant.

  • 💰 Chino Hills received $1.09M federal funding for Los Serranos Flood Protection Project. Total $2M project will install storm drains, enhance sidewalks, curbs, gutters in flood-prone community.

Community

  • 💊 Chino Police may ban 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH), opioid-like substance sold in 90% of Chino smoke shops as "natural energy." Chief Mensen investigating ordinance after outreach specialist warned of fatal overdoses.

  • 🏛️ Chino Hills denied YMCA's $100K grant request and Chamber of Commerce's $10K request for Community Development Block Grant funding. Six nonprofits approved at $11,655 each including House of Ruth, Rebel Ranch, Anthesis.

The Bulletin

The Digest

🤑 Measure V is printing money for Chino. The one-cent sales tax approved by voters in 2024 is now projected to generate $25 million this fiscal year — $365,000 more than expected. Budget Manager Sheri Beckett announced the windfall during Tuesday's mid-year review, noting $9 million has already been allocated to projects including Yorba Avenue improvements and citywide slurry seals, with the Euclid Avenue bridge and water main replacements on deck. But here's the kicker: while the city council celebrated the surplus, they missed a $3.6 million unfunded liability in the Employee Services Fund during the budget process. Also buried in the appropriation requests? A mysterious $69,024 increase for the Animal Resource Center contract that nobody at the meeting could explain when pressed by ARC critic Maureen Mendoza. "Does anybody know anything about the ARC here?" she asked. Councilman Curtis Burton's response: "Are you kidding me?" The estimated General Fund balance still projects at $42 million by June 30, so the money tree keeps giving — even if nobody's quite sure where all the branches lead.

🦷Curve Dentistry: A Dentist Kids Don’t Mind Visiting

Chino Valley Parents — this one’s for you.

Finding a dentist your kids actually feel comfortable with? That’s not always easy — but Curve Dentistry makes it feel that way.

Their space looks straight out of a magazine, but what really stands out is how they treat people. Dr. Jeff does an amazing job curating the comfort of his patients, and booking is easy for the entire family. With 114 five-star reviews, their local reputation is glowing.

I have a 2-yo toddler who just had his first check-up. We took him in after both me & my husband visited and was so thoroughly impressed with our regular cleaning. Dr. Jeff took his time to get my son acclimated to the chair, the lights, and the small dental mirror. He loved it. I’ve visited several dentists in the area, and Curve Dentistry is the first one that didn’t feel too... salesy. Nothing like walking in for a routine cleaning and getting recommended a $2350 procedure you don’t actually need. At Curve, there is none of that.

If your family needs a good dentist to settle into, and get easy appointments for the whole family, Curve is your find.

If you’ve been a local, you surely know about Chino Neighborhood House. It’s a free food pantry that’s been around since 1945, and they’ve been a heart of the community for a long time. They serve more than 1,200 adults, children, and senior citizens each month that need our help putting food on the table.

But they need our help. It’s located in an older building, run mostly by volunteers, and the space simply cannot support the day-to-day operations of their mission. So the Chino Valley Chamber of Commerce & their Leadership Collective (a local group of business owners, including me!) have partnered with them to help.

For the next few months, we’re running a large donation drive to help them upgrade critical infrastructural limitations, including things like:

  • Removal of asbestos in their storage shed

  • Re-doing shelving and flooring for donation areas

  • Securing a pallet jack so that older volunteers can work with heavy canned donations

But we can’t do this without your help. If you feel inclined to help, please consider donating a small amount to the Chino Neighborhood House. All proceeds will go directly to them (you can also get a tax write-off!).

If you’re a business owner and can afford a larger donation, please reply to this email and we’ll help you secure a sponsorship package so that you’re business can be honored in future chamber events.

Thank you everyone for participating in this important cause!

🤍 We’ve gotten a few request for business-owner specific dinners and networking events. Please answer the poll below to be included in our further communication!
